Lusaka – ZambianPresident Hakainde Hichilema has appointed lawyer Ms Nelly Mutti as the Speaker of the National Assembly, making her the first woman to hold the job.
Ms Mutti is a seasoned lawyer who trained at the University of Zambia. She is a certified Arbitrator and Mediator and a managing partner of Lukona Chambers, a renowned law firm in Zambia.
In her career, she has served as;
– Director at Emeritus Reinsurance in 2005, and subsequently as board chair of the company in 2011;
– Chairperson of the Anti-Corruption Commission from 2002 to 2006; and
– Commissioner on the Constitution Review Commission of Zambia from 2003 to 2005.
Ms Mutti is the daughter of freedom fighter Jethro Mutti, who was Member of Parliament for Mankoya from 1964-1968, and later MP for Livingstone from 1968-1971.
Her father served as minister of State for Rural Development, Cabinet Minister for North Western province and also as Zambian Ambassador to Ethiopia.
