Windhoek – Comedian Trevor Noah and his satirical news programme The Daily Show have been nominated for the 25th Webby Awards, to be held on May 18, 2021.
The South African has been nominated in the Best Host or Personality and the Video Remixes/Mashup categories. The Daily Show, which is in its 26th season, is nominated for the Humour General and the Media & Entertainment awards.
The show’s parent company, Comedy Central, has 19 nominations, including the Webby Media Company of the Year.
The ceremony will be hosted by actress Jameela Jamil in a star-studded virtual presentation, featuring special moments and the trademark five word speeches from the winners.
“Since inception in 1997, the Webby Awards have celebrated inspiring internet talent and visionary innovation,” said Claire Graves, executive director of the awards said in a statement accompanying the nominations. “The 25th Annual Webby Awards nominees represent far more than innovation. Despite so much adversity this year, the creators behind our nominated work have found new and exciting ways to use their platforms and creativity to help the world stay connected.”
There were more than 13,000 entries from over 70 countries this year. All winners will be decided by a panel of judges, except for the Webby People’s Voice Award, which is the result of an online vote by fans from around the world.
Presented by the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences, the Webby Awards honour productions spanning diverse platforms and delivery modules such as websites, podcasts, traditional media and apps and games.
