Windhoek – Music streaming service Tidal has added an exclusive African music hub on its platform, featuring a variety of content, including playlists of new tracks and timeless classics.
Curated playlists include “Africa Now”, which highlights the trending and biggest hitsl; “Afrique: Top Francophone” hits, and “Afrobeats Heat”. Other playlists are “Nigeria Hits”, “Sabar”, “Kora” and “Mzansi Hits”.
“As the world’s youngest continent with 60 percent of the population under the age of 25, young producers and artists are creating exciting pop music at a breath-taking rate, challenging cultural norms and making waves locally and internationally,” Tidal said in a statement this week.
The playlists will be regularly updated to keep up with trends.
Tidal’s expansion into African music follows that of its other rival streaming platforms, such as Deezer. In March, Shazam launched the “East Africa Risers” playlist on Apple Music, after launching similar playlists for Nigerian and South African music.
In September 2020, Tidal secured a partnership with MTN Nigeria for the latter’s subscribers to access exclusive content, including music, videos, concerts, interviews and news.
