Harare – Zimbabwe’s own Anne Kansiime, Fellistas Maruta, whose stage name is Mai Titi, was honoured among women in entrepreneurship during the Women’s Business and Leadership award ceremony at Meikles Hotel last week.

The awards were hosted by Women’s Heritage Society World Organisation. Mai Titi, who was honoured with the Top Female Entertainment and Social Media Enterprise Business Leader of the Year Award, could not hide her joy during the event.

She could not resist the tears of joy from flowing down her cheek, as the event organiser, Dr Enricho Sibanda, applauded her talent and described the positive effect of her comics in society.

“Mai Titi’s contribution to the society is unique, significant and worth to be celebrated. Her creativeness brings therapy to our society. The fact that she is a woman and successful in the industry has a positive impact on the life of a girl child,” said Dr Sibanda, before handing over Mai Titi’s award.

In an interview, Mai Titi told The Southern Times that she was shocked to receive such recognition.

“I am shocked and I still can’t believe this. I never knew that what I do in society, in the nation, can be recognised like this. To be honest, it feels like I am dreaming,” said Mai Titi.

“I am truly honoured. I thank God for blessing me with this gift. I also want to thank my parents for standing by me in all that I do. You know, I never knew that all this craziness is going to take me to such places, I am also grateful for the support I get on social media.

“My talent is a calling from God. I believe God sent me to use comedy as a therapy. The skits I do are like a medicine to ease the stresses and pressures that people face on a day-to-day basis. A lot of people have pressures from work, marital issues and financial issues, among many other things. Just like what Dr Sibanda said, my talent plays a significant role in society.”

She said laughing was healthy and sometimes she made her jokes in a manner that mentored people and encouraged good morals.

Mai Titi’s humorous skits are popular on social media platforms such as Facebook, WhatsApp and YouTube.
