Lusaka-----In a bizarre incident, a man of  Mpika in northern Zambia axed his wife and four of his children, one aged-18 months, to death after discovering that his spouse was on life prolonging anti-retroviral drugs, Zambia Police Service confirmed Monday.

According to police, the assailant, identified as Royd Kampamba, upon realising that his wife was on the ARVs, first went for a drink beer at a nearby pub and upon return around midnight, found his wife and children asleep.  It was then that he took an axe and smash the heads of his sleeping family, a bizarre act he confessed to police when interrogated over the motive.

“I discovered that she was taking ARVs and she didn’t tell me. I was very angry and that is how I killed them,” Kampamba  is cited as saying in a confession he made to police during interrogations.

At the crime scene, police said blood and brain matter was all over in the room where the four victims are said to have been slain at the weekend. The suspect has been remanded in custody.
