Johannesburg - Forbes Magazine has named South African born Trevor Noah as the fourth highest-earning stand-up comedian of 2019.
The 35-year-old star, who is the host of popular American TV programme, The Daily Show, made it to the list with $28 million earned between June 1, 2018, and June 1, 2019.
However, it’s understood that the bulk of his earnings don’t come from anchoring one of the biggest shows on American TV.
Forbes magazine disclosed that his 70-stop worldwide tour pulled in some serious bank and made the biggest contribution to this of $28 million personal wealth .
In addition, the Soweto-born jokester raked in some big bucks from his second Netflix special 'Son of Patricia', while his 2016 autobiographical comedy book 'Born a Crime' is still ranked No. 1 on the New York Times’ bestseller list for paperback non-fiction.
However, despite almost cracking the top three, Noah still has a long way to go before he can get anywhere near the top of the pile.
Kevin Hart, who has appeared in Hollywood blockbusters and Amazon Prime exclusives, sat pretty on top of the list with nearly $60 million in the bank after a year’s work.
Jerry Seinfeld is usually top of the charts, as the 90s favourite but had to settle for second in 2019. According to the magazine, he basically doesn’t have to graft as hard as others on the list. He makes a lot of his money from the streaming rights to his self-titled sitcom. A recent Netflix special and a residency at The Beacon in Manhattan have kept his bank balance healthy.
Jim Gaffigan came third on the list while Amy Schumer remains the world’s highest-paid female comedian, thanks to a sell-out US to
Meanwhile, Trevor is currently on a break from The Daily Show and has been put on vocal rest by doctors.
“Unfortunately, per doctor’s orders I am on vocal rest and won’t be able to host The Daily Show tonight. Luckily we've got a few days off so I'm gonna rest and get back to 100,” he revealed to fans on social media late last week.
