The Southern Times comes out tops

Windhoek - The Southern Times’ online writer and Digital and Social Media Focal Person, Sharon Kavhu, has won the Merck Foundation's “Merck More Than a Mother” Media Recognition Award the Best Online Publication category.
The Merck Foundation Awards - which are presented in partnership with the First Lady of Namibia, Monica Geingos; the First Lady of Malawi, Monica Chakwera; and the First Lady of Zimbabwe, Auxillia Mnangagwa – will be officially held via a virtually ceremony on a date to be announced soon.
Merck Foundation CEO Dr Rasha Kelej on Tuesday revealed that Kavhu emerged tops in the online category in Southern Africa, ahead of other journalists from Namibia, Malawi, Lesotho and Zimbabwe.
In the same category, Gracious Mugovera from the Patriot (Zimbabwe) also won; followed by Happy Njalam’mano from Zodiak Broadcasting Station in Malawi and John Manzango of The Herald in Zimbabwe.
Winners in the print category were Roselyne Sachiti (Zimbabwe), Memory Kutengule (Malawi), Moses Mugugunye (Zimbabwe), Patrick Musira (Zimbabwe) and Takudzwa Chihambakwe (Zimbabwe).
A special Award for a novel was given to Nyasha Clementine Rwodzi (Zimbabwe).
In the multimedia category, first position went to Abel Dzobo (Zimbabwe), followed by Namibian journalist Rosa Teixeira.
The radio category had several ties with first position being occupied by Linda Banda (Malawi), Veronika Hulenga-Haufiku (Namibia) and Tashie Masawi (Zimbabwe). They were followed by Mathilde Ndinelao Hinafa (Namibia), Ikemisetseng Marou (Lesotho) and Rutendo Makuti (Zimbabwe). Third place went to Memory Nkwe Ndhlovu (Zimbabwe).
The Merck Foundation “Merck More Than a Mother” Media Recognition Awards are held annually to recognise and appreciate African journalists who have produced accurate, informative and compelling stories about infertility, with the aim of raising awareness about the condition in both men and women.
