Cape Town - South African artists have provided the bulk of nominees from the region in the 2020 African Music Magazine Awards, constituting early half of the shortlist.
In the Best Male Southern Africa category, finalists are Black Coffee, Cassper Nyovest, Master KG, Tshego and Yanga Chief (all South African); along with Jah Prayzah (Zimbabwe), Shyn (Madagascar), King Tee Dee (Namibia) and Slap Dee (Zambia).
Last year, South African artists again dominated that category.
That country also has the most artists in the Best Female Southern Africa category with Sho Madjozi, Busiswa, Ami Faku, Azana, and Elaine. Other nominees are Shasha, Ammara Brown and Shashi (all Zimbabwean) and Boss Madam (Namibia).
Last year, South Africa’s Master KG andSho Madjozi were adjudged the best male and female musicians in Southern Africa.
In the African Best category in 2020, the Southern African region is more than holding its own with representation by Navy Kenzo (Tanzania), Mi Casa (South Africa), Forca Seprema (Angola), 4KEUS (DRC) and Moobers (Angola).
The story was the same in the 2019 nominations with B26 (Angola), Navy Kenzo (Tanzania), Forca Suprema (Angola), Black Motion (South Africa) and 4 KEUS (DRC) considered among the best in Africa.
