Windhoek- A French couturier, Christian Dior who was popularly known for his eponymous fashion house-Dior once said: “Too many women think that they are unimportant, but the real proof of an elegant woman is what is on her feet.”
With Dior’s notion, many women believe that “a woman is never ugly when wearing the right shoes”. Wearing heels or trendy shoes can boost a woman’s confidence when she walks, it gives a sense of beauty in fashion that brings a unique boldness.
However, unlike in other seasons where all types of shoes and designs can be worn, winter season restricts women to wearing only winter boots and warm shoes.
But how can you keep up an elegant look in a winter boot?
It is important to understand that winter boots come in different designs, types and materials. The type of the winter boots that one wears is influenced by their structure and fashion taste as well as the occasion.
Among the several types of shoes are: the UGG boots, lace boots, ankle boots, thigh high boots, and peep bootie boots.
The UGG boots are the ones that never go out of style because they are both warm and comfortable. This type of boot is a jack of all trade in informal wear as it can be worn with any type of casual dressing.
“UGG boots are the boots that have a flat base and PVC soles. They can either be calf height or slightly above the ankles. One can wear them with a dress and soaks, long tights with a jersey, a pair of jeans with a jacket, and a pair of jeggings and a jersey. The boots look more appropriate in a smart casual or just casual wear,” said Tatiana Joseph a fashion advisor based in Harare, Zimbabwe.
She said ladies are discouraged to wear the UGG boots with formal slacks, a formal blazer or formal skirts.
For the ladies that love matching, they can match the UGG boots with their handbags, jerseys, dress tops or belts.
Casual outfits can also go well with thigh high and ankle high boots made from leather materials or suede. The boots can substitute the UGG boots for ladies who are fans of heels.
Lee Madyara, popularly known as Hollywood Lee after her fashion blogger, told The Southern Times recently that ladies need to consider their structures before picking winter boots.
According to her, wide calf boots are good for the heavily built ladies while the lace up boots are good for the slim ladies.
“Tall women should go for flat boots or block heels but not too high while the short women can go for the high-heeled boots,” she said.
When it comes to wearing winter boots for an office look, ladies are advised to wear the thigh-high and ankle high-boots usually made from leather, suede, animal skin and pleather.
The high-thigh boots can go well with leggings or skinny jeans with a formal top and a blazer; flared formal dresses with long socks among several others. The idea is to maintain the formal look on top, either with a blazer or jersey.
She said the ankle-high boots look nicer when one wears them with trendy socks and a dress or formal skirts and pulling socks.
“If a woman spends most of her time in the office, then the best way to rock boots is to wear them with a coat dress. This makes them look classy and elegant while on a casual trip one could never go wrong in boots, jeans and a biker jacket or blazer,” said Madyara.
The peep booties or open toes boots are stylish and trendy for winter but they expose the toes, as such they should be worn with pulling socks for warmth.
