Windhoek – The 2018/19 Namibia Premier League (NPL) season kicks off on the weekend of 5 October 2018, according to league administrator, Joshua Tovey Hoebeb.
In a media statement availed on Friday, Hoebeb said the NPL Executive Committee (Exco) during its meeting on 23 August 2018 in Windhoek decided that the league kick off in October in accordance with their constitution.
“The fixtures will be released for publication after the NPL Board of Governance meeting and congress, which will take place on 15 September 2018 in Windhoek,” said the statement.
It also quoted the NPL Exco calling on the public to “jealously support their teams in the upcoming season”, which is expected to be very competitive.
Karasburg-based Young Brazilians Football Club and Julinho Sporting from Rundu have been crowned the Southern Stream and North-East Stream First Division champions, respectively, and promoted to the NPL for the 2018/19 NPL season.
The North-West First Division group winners Military School Okahandja and African Motto are set to battle for promotion to NPL, with the first of the two-legged play-off matches to take place in Okahandja over the coming weekend.
Military School Okahandja won Group A while African Motto won Group B to reach the playoffs.
The teams fighting to secure a place in the country’s top-flight league for the 2018/19 season will replace Rundu Chiefs, Chief Santos and Young Chiefs who were relegated to the North-East and North-West First divisions, respectively, at the end of the 2017/18 NPL season. - Nampa
