Windhoek – The 2018 Nedbank Citi Run was officially launched in Windhoek on Tuesday.
The 10-kilometre race, which has a cut-off time of 50 minutes, is scheduled for June 23, 2018, along the capital’s Independence Avenue. There will also be a five and 10km fun run and walk earlier in the day.
It is expected to attract 2,000 people.
Nedbank’s Executive for Wealth, Elaine Schlechter, invited all Namibians to take part.
“I challenge corporates to enter teams, schools to enter, and individuals to take up the fun challenge and join us on this exciting run in our beautiful city. For our serious runners, the 10km Citi Dash will be a real treat,” she said.
Organiser, Frank Bombosch of Cycletec, said the second event, the Citi Dash, will start at the Nedbank Ausspannplatz offices and will go all the way to the Simon de Witt Bridge along Independence Avenue, back past the starting point for one kilometre and loop around Dr António Agostinho Neto Square (former Ausspannplatz Circle) before the final dash to the finishing point.
Winners in the elite 10km dash category for both men and women will receive R15,000, while the juniors will receive R12,500 for both girls and boys.
Registration for the race is open through Events Today, the PayToday app, all Airtime City vending machines, the Eye Store in Maerua Mall and Cycletec.
The City of Windhoek will avail essential services to the event including the City Police service, traffic department, fire department and the parks and recreation office’s services. – Nampa
