Gaborone – Motswana comedian and musician William Last KRM is finally coming into his own.
The rise in his popularity regionally has seen him bagging a coveted award at the South African Black Twitter Awards for his theatrical music video titled “Tinto”.
The awards were hosted recently on Twitter by renowned South African tweep, Jan van Potgieter.
The Black Twitter Awards are aimed at celebrating the black community who entertain, educate and make things go viral on the social media platform.
Unveiling William as the winner of the Best Music Video Award, Potgieter said: “Just to honour @William_krm for the amazing work him and his team did on ‘Tinto’. We would like to give him an award for the Best Music Video of 2020.”
A week before this announcement, SA Hip Hop Experts - an online publication - had noted on its Facebook page that, “William Last’s ‘Tinto’ is approaching one million views on YouTube in just a month.”
Prior to bagging the Best Music Video gong, the comedian-cum-musician had called on his fans to “make ‘Tinto’ reach one million views before the end of this week”.
His fans did not disappoint as “Tinto” notched up more than one million views soon afterwards.
South African music producer DJ Vigilante described the video as one of the “best visuals he has seen this year (2020)”.
Commenting on the music video, social media user Azolla Ndube II from Eastern Cape, South Africa observed that ‘”adding comedy to you music video is what makes you different …so if I were you I would stick to that”.
Another social media user from eSwatini, Nkululeko Gama, added that “the continent is behind you my brother”; while Zambia-based Ndubi Nvula said: “I don’t understand your lyrics but I’m in love with your song my brother, keep it up.”
