Windhoek – Independent South African record label Kalawa Jazmee has signed the Idols season 16 finalists, after having initially only snapped up winner Zama Khumalo.
In 2020, Kalawa Jazmee became the Idols SA official recording partner, and as part of the agreement, the label granted a contract to the winner, Khumalo. Kalawa Jazmee retained the option to sign the other top 5, and duly exercised this early in February when it brought Mr Music, Ndoni, Zanothando and Brandon into its stable.
Kalawa Jazmee's director Oscar “Oskido” Mdlongwa said, "We take responsibility of developing this talent very seriously. The music industry has never been so competitive, after all, Spotify adds about 40,000 tracks every day, so it is important to produce quality and have strong artists’ brands."
Zama, Brandon and Mr Music have already produced songs and videos with the label, while Zanothando and Ndoni are recording their first singles. In the pipeline is a planned retreat where the new recruits, together with the record label's top as well as upcoming guest producers, will work on new music.
Kalawa Jazmee has been a feature of the South African music industry for over 25 years now, and it is presently making itself relevant by producing hit Afro house and amapiano tunes.
