ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup Africa qualifiers underway

Rehoboth - A high standard of cricket is expected during the International Cricket Council Under-19 Cricket World Cup Africa qualifier tournament, which started in Windhoek on Sunday.
Namibia opened the campaign against the much-fancied Nigerians who came out victorious with 52 runs, while Uganda defeated Kenya by 70 runs.
A statement issued by Cricket Namibia on Monday said the tournament is expected to be a fiercely contested affair, thanks to some very good talent coming through the African structures.
“Several of the players have recently been involved in a placement programme in South Africa, plying their trade for various club sides and the upshot of that were some fine individual performances. Those players involved will be looking to transfer those displays into a tournament that matters,” the statement said.
It further stated that there is a liberal spread of young players who have already represented their senior national sides, so the battle for supremacy in Namibia is one that is expected to run all week.
Six African nations are participating in the tournament, that is, Kenya, Namibia, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Tanzania and Uganda. - Nampa
