Windhoek – Brave Gladiators' preparations ahead of the 2018 Council of Southern Africa Football Associations (Cosafa) Women’s Championship have reached fever pitch.
The Women's Championships are slated for Port Elizabeth, South Africa, from 13 to 26 September 2018.
Speaking to Nampa on the side-lines of the team’s training session, Brave Gladiators coach Brain Isaacs said: “I am impressed by the attendance and competitiveness of the girls. Those that are employed were given letters by the association, which helps them secure their release for training.”
He added that compared to last year’s preparations, the team is in a much better position this year.
He noted that the team currently plays matches against the under 17 boys teams based in Windhoek on Fridays and Sundays as a way of boosting the players’ match fitness.
The team has so far played four matches in the past two weeks, twice against SKW's under-17 boys and twice against Swallows' under 17 boys.
“The girls are not playing in the league, hence the need to have them play as much as possible. Their fitness is also improving very much,” he stressed.
He added that, for this year’s tournament, the team will be without their top striker Zenatha Coleman, who recently joined top Spanish side Valencia, as the Spanish Women’s Premier League kicks off on the weekend the team leaves for Port Elizabeth
This year’s tournament draw is scheduled for 16 August in South Africa. – Nampa
