Windhoek - Chinese Ambassador to Namibia, Zhing Yiming, on Wednesday donated 1 000 fast testing kits newly developed by an unnamed Chinese hi-tech company to detect coronavirus (Covid-19).
Speaking before handing over the test kits, the Chinese ambassador said, "Our government is considering to offer more support for Africa, including Namibia. So today these 1000 fast test kits are part of our assistance to demonstrate genuine friendship. We will be and I will be standing side by side with you throughout."
In response to the goodwill gesture, the Namibian Minister of Health and Social Services, Kambuli Shangula, said, "Thank you comrade ambassador for your statement, which confirms long standing relations between Namibia and China, and also for expressing jealous solidarity with Namibia at this particular point in time....I want to express on behalf of the government of Namibia our sincere appreciation of the generous support and the show of solidarity you have shown to Namibia."
China has offered 12 000 test kits through the African Diseases Control Centre in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, for the entire African continent, including Namibia.
