A suspected hand grenade exploded today at White City Stadium in Bulawayo as President Mnangagwa and his top hierarchy were leaving after addressing a campaign rally.
Unconfirmed reports said Vice President Kembo Mohadi and Minister of Water, Environment and Climate Oppah Muchinguri Kashiri were injured. Mohadi is said to have sustained a leg injury.
Zanu-PF national political commissar is also believed to have been injured.
The White City stadium has a symbolical significance in the ascendancy of President Mnangagwa.
The stadium is where former First Lady Grace Mugabe’s unfettered power was first challenged when she was booed by Zanu-PF supporters as she addressed a rally last November.
Zimbabwe is scheduled to hold elections on July 30 to elect a President, legislators and local government councillors.
