In a bid to market Zimbabwe’s tourist attraction centres, Air Tanzania, in partnership with the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority (ZTA), recently brought into the country a 10-men delegation from various Tanzanian travel agencies to tour and explore Zimbabwe’s best tourist attraction centres.

The delegation arrived in Zimbabwe on 26 March and left on 31 March after touring the capital city, Hwange National Park and the Victoria Falls.

This comes as a gesture to fullfil Air Tanzania’s promise on the re-launching of the Harare-Dar es Salaam route last month, where the Tanzanian Minister of Transport, Isaac Kamwele, indicated that the re-launch of the route will unlock doors for economic linkages between the two nations.

Gumbo Mhandeni, managing director of the Hakuna Matata travel agency and head of the Tanzanian 10 men delegation, said their visit would yield a commendable number of Tanzanian tourists to Zimbabwe before the end of this year.

“We are people from the Tanzanian tourism trade, we are here in Zimbabwe courtesy of the Tanzania airline and the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority.

“We are here to see for ourselves what this country has to offer when it comes to the tourism sector, we look forward to learning and forging new partnerships with Zimbabwe.

“With the re-launching of Air Tanzania route and the commitment ZTA has shown to our people, we do believe we are going to bring more traffic with intra and inter travel as well as combination package.

“Our main aim is to get to know the Zimbabwean tourism sector, experience and explore everything, so that our tour operators will be able to sell and convince our people back home to visit Zimbabwe,” Mhandeni said.

“Zimbabwe already has good diplomatic relations with Tanzania, and this makes it easier for the two countries tourism sectors to merge and work together.

“When talking of Zimbabwe, there is a lot to be seen or to experience, so on this trip we are focusing more on Harare, Hwange and Victoria Falls because these places are on top of the magnificent tourist attraction centres this country has to offer,” he added.

Air Tanzania re-launched the Harare-Tanzania route last month, after putting a pause to the route for about two decades ago.

Zimbabwe Tourism and Hospitality Minister Prisca Mupfumira said Zimbabwe was committed to work with Air Tanzania to promote the two countries' tourism sectors.

Welcoming Air Tanzania to Zimbabwe last month, Mupfumira also indicated that her ministry will take advantage of the airline enhancing Zimbabwe’s trade and tourism activities.

“The historic launch of Air Tanzania will open a new chapter from an economic point of view as it will enable our citizens to enjoy our diverse tourist attractions, which include Mount Kilimanjaro and in Tanzania and locally the majestic Victoria Falls and the Great Zimbabwe.

“This will also improve trade and commerce between the two countries, and this increased connectivity will make it easier for tourists from around the world to visit these attractions for the benefit of our states,” Mupfumira said.
