Harare - One of Zimbabwe’s top female artists, 20-year old Tammy Moyo, is over the moon following her recent nomination for the All Africa Music Award (AFRIMA) ceremony scheduled for Ghana in November.

Moyo is one of the four Zimbabwean artists that have made it for the AFRIMA nominations and she has described it as a big milestone towards the growth of her career. The others are Winky D, Jah Prayzah, and Ammara Brown.

The 20-year old music star was nominated for the best female artiste from Southern Africa, together with Ammara Brown, South Africa’s Kelly Khumalo and Sho Madjozi, Trina from Zambia, Namibia’s Chikune as well as the Zimbabwean-born South Africa based Nadia Nakai.

Tammy said she understood the stiffness of her competition, as she is battling it out against the reigning Southern Africa’s best female artist, Ammara Brown, as well as legend such as South Africa’s Kelly Khumalo, who has been in the music industry for quite some time. She said she is not worried about winning or losing.

“Just being nominated means so much to me and my career. This is my first time to be nominated and I feel so honoured.

“This is going to be such a memorable event in my life. Whether I win or not I will still be grateful for just being nominated and I see this nomination as a national honour.

“I am happy to be among the best artists from Zimbabwe, it is an honour to be named among artists like Jah Prayzah, Winky D and Ammara Brown who have been in the international scene for a while,” she said.

Musicians and artists from the SADC region are making waves in this year’s AFRIMMA nominations list, with the likes of Tanzania’s Diamond Platinum, Casper Nyovest from South Africa, Nasty C from South Africa and many other artistes.

AFRIMMA annual awards will be marking its sixth edition this year, and the organisers of the prestigious African music awards are confident the event will create a great impact towards building and developing African artistes.

They AFRIMMA added that African musicians deserve to be honoured and recognized for their hard work.

“November 2019 will see African stars descend on Accra, Ghana, as we celebrate the sixth edition of the AFRIMMA. Africa should be ready for surprises this year, as well as a magnificent show as the AFRIMMA team is working tirelessly to make sure they deliver nothing but the best.

“African artistes deserve all the accolades, and we are here to hand that to them. Celebrating African music and culture is the foundation on which the brand AFRIMMA is built,” said the AFRIMMA organisers.
