Windhoek- Top African musicians including Davido and Runtown (Nigeria), Jah Prayzah (Zimbabwe), Heavy K and Busiswa (South Africa) are set to perform during the MTC music festival dubbed 081EveryFest.
The festival, which is part of MTC’s celebration of 100% population coverage, is expected to be held on 11 August.
081EveryFest will be held at Sam Nujoma Stadium in Katutura where the regional musicians will also share the stage with Namibia’s Gazza, Kalux, Oteya, KP Illest, feisty Sally aka “Boss Madam”, Adora, PDK, DJ sensations Afroberries and 4x4 Too Much Power.
The tickets are going for only R25 to give everyone access to the unique event; and the returns of the event are going to charity.
Below are brief backgrounds of the regional talents compiled by The Southern Times.
Born as David Adedeji Adeleke on 21 November 1992 in Atlanta, Georgia, USA, the Nigerian musician is a multi-award winner. He gained the limelight in 2011 with his single ‘Dami Duro’ and today, he is the talk of the region. This year alone he won The Headies Award for Artiste of the Year, BET Award for Best International Act and The Headies Award for Best Pop Single or his song ‘If’. Last year, he won the MTV Europe Music Award for Best African Act, Nigerian Entertainment Award for Best Single, the Future Awards Africa Nigeria Prize for Music, the Nigerian Entertainment Award for Afro-pop Male Artist and City People Music Award for Popular Song of the Year.
In 2016, he was awarded Best Collabo of the Year by City People Award, in 2014 he won the BET Award for Best International Act: Africa, Nigeria Entertainment Award for Best Collaboration, MTV Africa Music Award for Artist of the Year, City People Music Award for Music Artist of the Year (Male) and Nigeria Entertainment Award for Male Artist of the Year.
In 2015, he was awarded Nigeria Entertainment Award for Best Pop Artist of the Year, Nigerian Teen Choice Award for Celebrity Award - Top Featured Artist, MTV Africa Music Award for Best Male and Nigerian Teen Choice Award for Celebrity Award.
Davido has done several collaborations with regional artists such as Zimbabwean Jah Prayzah on ‘My Lilly’, South Africa’s Cassper Nyovest ‘Check on you’, Tanzanian Diamond Platnumz ‘Number One’, South Africa group Mafikizolo on ‘Tchelete’ and South African Uhuru on ‘Skelewu Remix’, among others
Runtown is a Nigerian musician whose real name is Douglas Jack Agu. He is a singer, songwriter and producer born on 19 August 1989.
He has released one studio album, 17 singles and 10 music videos. His debut single was released in 2007 but came into the limelight in 2014 when he released ‘Gallardo’. The song ‘Gallaedo’ features vocals from Davido and it won Best Collaboration of the Year at Nigeria Entertainment Awards in 2014. On 23 November 2015, he released his debut studio album titled ‘Ghetto University’ via MTN Music Plus through Eric Many Entertainment.
Born as Mukudzei Mukombe on 4 July 1987 in Uzumba, Zimbabwe, the man is known for his hit songs, ‘Angel lo’ featuring Jamaican Jah Cure, ‘My Lilly’ featuring Davido, ‘Sendekera’ featuring South African Mafikizolo outfit, ‘Nziyo yerudo’ featuring South African Yemi Alade, ‘Kutonga Kwaro’, ‘Mdhara Vachauya’ and ‘Kumbumura Mhute’, among others.
His debut album-‘Rudo Nerunyararo’ was released in 2007, in 2010 he released ‘Sungano Yerudo’, two years after he released ‘Ngwarira Kuparara’, in 2014 he released ‘Kumbumura Mhute’, in 2015 he released ‘Jerusarema’, in 2016 he released ‘Mdara Vachauya’ and in 2017 he released ‘Kutonga Kwaro’.

Born as Mkhululi Siqula on 4 December (1991), Port Elizabeth, South Africa, Heavy K is a self-taught music composer, songwriter, producer, deejay and performer.
His song, ‘A Beautiful War’, featuring Professor, was one of the chart-toppers last festive season while his collaboration with Bucie on ‘Easy to Love’ made it to the top-40 charts on the airwaves and you could also not ignore ‘Wena’ featuring Mpumi!
Busiswa Gqulu, born 16 January 1983 in Mthatha, Eastern Cape, is known professionally as Busiswa or Busi. She is a singer-songwriter and poet.
Busi is signed to Kalawa Jazman records Universal records in Johannesburg, South Africa.
She performed at Malibongwe Dialogues in 2009, as part of Nelson Mandela’s celebration and was the resident stage presenter at a major public viewing area in Durban during FIFA 2010 World Cup.
