Harare – African football powerhouse Senegal will make a guest appearance at this year’s edition of the COSAFA Cup scheduled for July at Nelson Mandela Bay in South Africa.
The draw for the 12-team tournament, which will run between July 7 and 18, is set for this Thursday.
And it is the roping in of 2002 FIFA World Cup quarter-finalists Senegal which is set to light up the 20th edition of the tournament organised by the Council of Southern African Football Associations that will make the headlines.
The tourney was suspended last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic and makes a spectacular return with the participation of the Lions of Teranga.
In a statement COSAFA on Tuesday said: “The draw for the 2021 COSAFA Cup will be staged in the host city Nelson Mandela Bay on Thursday, June 17as preparations for the historic 20th edition of the regional showpiece competition kick into gear.
“And there will be plenty of excitement with the addition of West African powerhouse Senegal to the field this year as they make a guest appearance in what is a landmark tournament for COSAFA.”
Eleven teams, including Senegal, have since confirmed their participation at the annual jamboree with a final contestant expected to determine availability between Tuesday and Wednesday.
Zambia are the defending champions after winning the trophy in 2019 in South Africa.
