Windhoek – Radio personality Sbu Leope, better known as DJ Sbu, is eyeing another milestone, this time targeting the Highest Altitude DJ Set in the World.
DJ Sbu is going for the Guinness Record in December when he plans to play a set on the world’s highest mountain, Mount Everest, in the Himalayas.
The feat is not all about individual glory: the South African music man is doing it as a fundraiser for Siyazigabisa Home of Hope, which shelters orphans, runaways and abused women.
DJ Sbu said on one of his social media handles: “Time to raise the bar higher again! Let’s go! Stop for who? We keep going… Excited to announce that my application for my 2nd world record attempt has been accepted by @guinessworldrecords .We doing it again for a good cause. All sponsors are welcome. This time for the Highest Altitude DJ Set in the World.”
He said prior to the world record attempt, he would release new music and go on a South Africa-wide and continental tour to build hype towards the Mt Everest show.
“From July leading up to the world record attempt in December, I will be dropping new music and launching a nationwide and Africa tour playing in different venues, indoor and outdoor in African countries, entertaining crowds while rallying support and getting ready for the Mount Everest, playing 100 percent African music no compromise!” DJ Sbu said.
Last December, the “Mpambane” hit-maker set a Guinness World Record for the Longest Marathon Music Radio Show. He broadcast live for a straight 216 hours on four radio stations in South Africa and Tanzania, all for charity.
The Tembisa-born DJ has been on the airwaves for two decades and is also the owner of beverages brand, Mo Faya. He runs two online radio stations, Massiv Metro and Homegrown Radio, with the latter’s mandate being to unearth and empower upcoming talent.
DJ Sbu is the founder of the Sbu Leope Foundation and executive chairman of Leadership 2020, an organisation rooted in inspiring entrepreneurs. In addition, the busybody is a motivational speaker and author of the The Art of Hustling.On the music front, he recently released a 10-track album titled Home Coming – The African Odyssey, which features Mama Leope, Nigeria’s Laolu NYC and Alikiba from Tanzania, amongst others.
