Harare – Fast-growing South African electric vehicle manufacturer Agilitee has opened an office in Nigeria as it expands beyond the SADC region.
The Nigeria office will serve as the company’s West Africa headquarters. Apart from South Africa, the company also has operations in eSwatini and Zimbabwe, and plans to establish a presence in other Southern African countries such as Namibia.
Agilitee CEO Dr Mandla Lamba said they chose Nigeria as the West Africa headquarters because it is the largest market in the region.
“Nigeria is the largest market in the Economic Community of West African States, it is actually the China of Africa. We chose Nigeria as the headquarters of Agilitee West Africa because it is at the heart of the region and through our Nigerian office we will be able to swiftly penetrate the region through selling licences to all the countries in that region. Our aim is to be operational in the entire Ecowas region by 2023,” he said.
He said the company was looking forward to building relationships with governments across West Africa through adoption of electric vehicles and rolling out of related infrastructure.
Electric vehicles are gaining currency globally as nations move from fossil fuels to green energy to combat climate change.
