Harare – Namibian boxing star Nathanael Sebastian is the new World Boxing Organisation Africa featherweight champ after he defeated Zimbabwe’s Jeremiah Mhere at Windhoek Country Club on Saturday.
The judges unanimously gave the fight – and the vacant WBO Africa featherweight belt – to Sebastian after the pugilist dominating virtually from start to finish.
The Namibian repeatedly threatened to send the Zimbabwean to the canvass, but Mhere absorbed the pressure, especially in the opening rounds of a fight that was streamed online.
There was a ray of sunshine for Mhere in the third round but Nathaniel recovered quickly and dominated the rest of the bout and it came as no surprise that he got the unanimous decision after the final bell.
Conceding defeat, Mhere said: “Nathanael is a good boxer. I gave everything I had in the tank and ran out of gas. I had taken several months without a fight and I was ring rusty. But, for now I can only congratulate the winner.”
