Harare – Botswana’s President Mokgweetsi Masisi has appointed of the country’s first female Minister of Finance, and Commissioner of the Botswana Prison Services.
The appointments of Ms Peggy Serame as Finance Minister, and Ms Dinah Marathe as Commissioner of the Botswana Prison Services were announced this week.
“President Masisi is determined to empower women, hence the appointment of Hon Peggy Serame as the first female Minister of Finance and Dinah Marathe as the first female Commissioner of Prisons are a fulfilment of President Masisi’s commitment to empower women,” reads a statement from the Office of the President.
Ms Serame has been a deputy permanent secretary in the presidency, a Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry, and an economist in Finance Ministry.
Ms Marathe became the first female Police Deputy Commissioner in Botswana’s history in 2012, and she has broken new ground once more by rising to head the entire prisons service.
